January 18, 1979 Mike “Hercules” Weaver won his first United States Heavyweight title against Stan Ward in
Las, Vegas Nevada. Weaver knocked him out in the 9th round for the title.
March 31, 1980 Weaver challenged John Tate in Knoxville, Tennessee for his first World Boxing
Association title, and won when he knocked him out in the 15th round.
He was nicknamed “Hercules” by Ken Norton while working as his sparring partner from 1972-1979.
This soft-spoken giant once revealed that he really didn’t like hurting his opponents in the ring.
